This is the sermon based on Romans 13:8-14 reading.
And right off the bat, Jesus doesn’t beat around the bush, he doesn’t give us instructions on how to be salt and light; he declares to us who we are- salt and light. He’s not hinting at this and he’s not saying that we will one day be salt and light; no, right now, right here we are the salt of the earth and we are the light of the world.
Being blessed feels like you have someone’s unconditional regard, that someone will be with you wherever you go so that you will not be alone. It feels like you have worth because you are you and you deserve it.
That is what our mission and our ministry is all about- keeping watch for God, focusing our gaze on Jesus and seeing what he does in his life, death, and resurrection; and then asking how we can live into and be a part of the life Jesus calls us into.
